Velli Sukem

Anchovy or Silver belly

Semi gravy

Ingredients:

30 Velli / silver belly fish cleaned

6 Kashmiri chilies

5 cloves of garlic

¾ inch ginger

¼ teaspoon cumin seeds

½ teaspoon turmeric

1 mediun size onion chopped

1 small raw mango

5 kokum’s

1 tablespoon oil

½ teaspoon sugar

10 oz water (295 / 300 ml)

** without coconut

Preparation:

  • Grind in a mixer – Kashmiri chilies, ginger, garlic, turmeric and cumin to a smooth paste

  • Add the following ingredient’s to a pot – oil, chopped onion, raw mangoes, fish, sugar, ground masala paste and water.

  • Cook this on medium heat for 10 minutes, add the kokum and check for salt.

  • Let this cook for another 5-6 minutes till the fish is cooked.
